A Good S'more is a MESSY S'more!

I took some pictures a couple weeks ago from when we made S'mores and thought I would share. The fire looked cool in the photo and come on… S'mores, right?!

We used the giant marshmallows this time but my preference is still two of the standard size; I think the outside browning to inside goo factor is better. Not sure how the rest of you do it, but I use about four or five Hershey chocolate squares of chocolate broken into individual pieces for more melting surface when the marshmallow hits it. I like my marshmallows toasted golden brown or just a bit darker and about three or four times their original size. I do not like catching them on fire, either! When I have the perfect toasted marshmallow, I squash them between the graham crackers to let the melted centers hit the chocolate, which if it's been sitting outside with you a while, is already melty and ready to go liquid. πŸ˜‰

Extras… Ultimately, I prefer an open campfire to one in an above ground fire pit; I just think you can get a better angle to the coals when you are toasting. Plus, it's just cooler. I also like a double-pronged toasting stick. To toast the marshmallows to perfection (my version), if you only have one prong they start rotating on the toaster and want to fall off well before they are done.

    I need to try that!

Oh, they were most excellent too. This came after a dinner of grilled burgers (bacon and cheddar mixed in), grilled sweet corn on the cob, and mushroom caps stuffed with a crab and shrimp mixture (wrapped in foil and cooked on the coals). πŸ˜‰

Damn +Scott CramerΒ – I might even try a complete 'copy paste' of that fine recipe, if you don't mind. That sounds like an absolutely perfect night in the out sides. πŸ™‚

Had a couple nice cold bottled root beers, too. Not IBC… blah. You gotta find something more off the beaten path and it must be in a glass bottle. πŸ˜‰ #rootbeersnob

Nice tip for using a double-pronged stick.

When you say it +Jim Gomes, it sounds dirty.

Nah, it's more like when you think it, +Scott Cramer .
