Another great way to get the most out of Google+ is that, after you post or share something interesting, "camp out" in the comments section and wait for a conversation. I admit that I haven't been doing that as much as I should. I tend to post and run, but I'll do it a bit more often.
The confusion is that the "real time" elements of Google+ give you one experience, but then people "catching up to a post" will get the feeling that it's been abandoned because no one's engaging them in the comments.
Something to consider.
