Reshared post from +Zach Seward

Forker has spent the past four years creating life-sized portraits of astronauts in mundane, terrestrial moments. Depicted in full spacesuit and helmet, his subjects mow the lawn, watch television and work in coffee shops.

In Forker’s view, the earthbound astronauts are heroes without a mission — a particularly rare breed of unemployed American.

  1. John Quinmore says:

Depressing to see that last mission come to an end. The Shuttle program kind of faded into the background in the last 20 years, but it's still one of the defining points of our generation. Here's hoping NASA doesn't fade into the same obscurity altogether.

  2. Scott Cramer says:

Wholeheartedly agree. I think large parts are going to end up in the private sector, though. The next "shuttle" program won't be through NASA alone.
