Greatly Written Piece on Perspective

I try to instill in my daughter when I see her make snap judgments, "You don't know someone else's story." This is a wonderful example and beautifully written.

In your hurry to keep things neat and orderly, you didn’t see the whole picture. You didn’t see the wheelchair lift permanently installed into the back of my SUV, and you didn’t see me unload my little girl’s pink manual wheelchair that we use for “quick” trips.

Thanks for posting this. As someone that is fearful as all hell that eventually (is really a matter of when) I may end up by appearance part of that demographic of invisibly disabled.

I remember giving my mother hell one day for parking in a handicap space when I was a kid, about 7. I told her how she shouldn't park there because someone who needed it should.

I had no conscious knowledge that my mother actually was disabled (invisibly) . We discussed it later, as she doesn't have a placard. She explained that she decided not to get one because at that time it meant "you can't drive". It's much better now with newer legislation and different symptoms she would position for.

That lesson definitely stuck with me.
