Marvel Movies vs. DC Movies – The Differences in Approach

An interesting read on the different ways the two comic giants approach their characters onscreen. I think the article gives a little too much credit that there is a concerted planned approach in some cases; I think the studios compromise for bucks and directors compromise for their own vanity in many cases. The idea of the Marvel approach going for escapism (read, default to action) made  the most sense as to one reason why the Marvel adaptations are doing so well.

Since Marvel studios brought production back in house, they have strived for a little more conformity. They built up to the avengers movie for almost 8yrs.  Licenses for other parts of their catalogue (X-Men, Spiderman) still remain with other studios, and Sony only made The Amazing Spiderman to hold onto said license due to it's value.

DC on the other hand are only now trying to emulate that and bring things back inhouse so they can build continuity… everything depends on how their Man of Steel movie fairs next month… If that fails, then their plan has nowhere to go.

True. I'd love to see it succeed; the more good superhero movies, the better! 🙂

One of the big differences for me is the reality of the worlds in Marvel vs. DC.  When you watch Ironman you think Tony Stark is out there somewhere putting powersuits together.  When you watch Batman, you think it's a really good movie about Batman.  That's a huge difference for me.

+Joshua Hocieniec Yes, the Marvel movies are in OUR world. 🙂
