Art for Today

I discovered this while searching for an image to represent how I feel when in the grip of headaches that take me down. For the record, I'm not a pretty young female; three strikes. However, the disarray of the mixed media form and the expression resonate with me. Now add tiny demons with jackhammers for limbs and you have my early morning. Oy.

Reminding myself after shoveling three times, the snow today really was beautiful.

It's easy to overlook the beauty of something when your glasses are covered in melted snow dripping from your head and your back is starting to ache from forgetting to lift with your legs after a hundred shovel-fulls of wet snow. I did stop several times to admire the beauty of it. Though, the beauty of it was much better when it was out of my driveway. :-)?

Cardboard Tube Light Saber!

I posted a quote by Marshall from the show How I Met Your Mother that said, "Civilized men don't fight unless it's with a light saber." I then cheekily challenged +David Mills to a duel. He accepted. Apparently so did his and +Jo Lane's youngest. And +Kim A. while I was working on a suitable weapon.

Inspired by the light saber in the 2014 Star Wars trailer, here is my response. Helmet is the Viking Ninja Bunny attire inspired by +Mary C. and the shirt is Kermit saying "It ain't easy being geeky." 🙂

+David Mills smooth skills:

https://plus.google.com/103036284882905236035/posts/ZFtpudmxyof (moves like a ninja!)

+Jo Lane and the tiniest Jedi posted a private taunt (because if the entire world saw this tiny Jedi's skills, there would be chaos):

+Kim A. joined privately (because she really is a ninja, and all that witness protection program stuff too):

Snow Face!

Got a #snowface from shoveling the home owner's winter exercise program? 😉

So, it's covering up almost as fast as I remove it, but my theory is it will be easier later. Right?! Lol?

Gregory Porter – "Be Good (Lion's Song)"

I discovered this song for the first time earlier this evening. Wow. Jazz/soul is not my norm but this is incredible! The video amps up my praise for this song even more.

From YouTube:
"Be Good" is the first video from Jazz singer Gregory Porter's critically acclaimed album of the same name.

Shot entirely on location in Baltimore, Maryland, director Pierre Bennu visually compliments Porter's intense lyrics and smooth, soulful vocals with vibrant colors and whimsical storytelling, and sets it all against Charm City's unique backdrop. As two lovers traverse their everyday lives amidst the mundane, Bennu draws on the power of everyday magic, the fear of loss, and the yearning for love in what he calls a "lullaby for your inner child."

"The dance of love is something that can be done alone but it is also fun with somebody else," says Bennu. "I wanted to show two characters; one who was so busy dancing alone, never looking to have a partner… and another so desperate for love that he would do whatever it took to get it. What that character finally realizes is that all he needed to offer forth was himself."

To compliment his artistic vision, Bennu tapped the talents of Baltimore-based multidisciplinary visual artist Dirk Joseph, whose 'magical props' add significantly to the video's playful and enchanting sensibility.

From an interview with Porter:
"Be Good" is a beautiful song. Is there a personal story behind it?

Yes. I remember riding home on my bike from the breakup with this woman who I call Be Good, and I was feeling like I needed a consoling lullaby, which is what “Be Good” is, a grown man’s lullaby. I was still strong, but in a way I was vulnerable. As soon as I got home, I started to write the song. She admired me as you would a lion at the circus, and she marveled at me, and she always told me I was great, but she kept me in this friend cage. She admired my mane and my roar, but never enough so that she allowed me to roam around and be free and love her like I wanted to when I wanted to. It was always when it was convenient for her, during visiting hours at the zoo.

Thanks +Bill Abrams? for introducing me to this artist, song, and video. ?

Google Inbox vs. Gmail

If you want to be cured of your addiction to e-mail, or desire to use it whatsoever for that matter, then by all means switch over to use Google's new "Inbox" to manage your e-mail. You will NEVER want to go into your e-mail again. Addiction cured.

Okay, I'm being harsh. The "bundling" feature is kind of nice and I can see tweaking it to make it work for me. However, dealing with my e-mail inbox as put together by designers who would most likely come into my house and sort my books by height and color… umm… no thank you Inbox. I find it hideous to look at and move around in the Inbox interface (especially on a small mobile screen not built for billboard acreage of white space).

Do you like to delete any e-mails? Yes? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?! Google will be sending a team of Inbox programmers to your house straight away to throw you in a deep dungeon with a limitless amount of cells below the Google complex. What were you even thinking? You should keep all ten zillion CRON notifications that are mailed to you. Also, you never know when your server "BACKUP COMPLETE" messages will be useful from last year, right?!

Yes, yes, Google, you can delete e-mails. Just select them one by one for a night of good fun. Do a search and there is NO WAY to select all the results of your search. I think I found a way to take all the offending messages and bundle them by type and then go to that bundle and select "move to trash" from a drop-down menu (heaven forbid you put the trash where someone could see it top level). Then you can get rid of the bundle. I think that might work. Or, you can just log back into your Gmail account to perform any blasphemous actions like this.

Seriously, I haven't wished for Yahoo mail in a decade. I didn't even wish for Yahoo mail when I HAD YAHOO MAIL! But… maybe they don't mind if I delete my own mail. I'll have to go check that out. Perhaps a Hotmail account would be in order since I'm waxing nostalgic and Google has sided themselves with stupid tech in my mind after wasting a couple days with Inbox.

Seriously, I will stick with my regular Gmail. Inbox maybe will improve (cough die cough cough).

One man's rant. I'd say review, but really I'm just telling you that I don't care for this new Google product from just a few visceral reactions that it caused me.

Go try it out. I've got a few invites left if you haven't anything better to do. Like cleaning your toilets… trimming your cat's toe nails while giving it a bath… or anything much more fun than being teased by what you hoped would be a great new way to handle your e-mail.?

HELP Recommend Game PC Under $1000

Okay, I have not been a PC gamer for way too many years (think Doom 2, original Duke Nukem series, and Age of Empires). I'm trying to help with a game PC system for a 16 year old boy. Think latest games, pumped up graphics, 16 year old cool factor, and in this case, he's not really super techie, just an avid gamer. And, sub $1000.

From reading, it appears AMD GPU's are pretty comparable to Nvidia and keeps the price down. Wrong tree to be barking up?

Looked around for a while and ended up on CyberPowerPC.com for what seemed to be some decent specs, prices, and cool factor.

Finally, decided I needed help from hands on folks. Anyone????

Help a Fellow Plusser AND Win Cookies!

C'mon. Would I ask you to do something for nothing? Okay… yes, yes, maybe I have done that before. But, this time I'm offering up some free homemade baked goods. 😉

+Kari Tedrick is a good friend, fellow plusser, and talented photographer. She's trying to get a pic into a local paper. It's a win based on popular vote so she could use our help. Direct link at the bottom of this post. Voting deadline is Thursday 9/11.

EDIT: The website had the dates wrong! Voting deadline was midnight 9/7. Kari got 2nd place and her photo will still be featured in the paper!!!

Since I already posted about this, I figured I'd better up the ante. For a few minutes of your time, and either registering or using the dreaded FB login, I will enter everyone who comments here that they voted into a drawing for FREE HOMEMADE COOKIES. 😀

1. Yes, I can bake. Other plussers have lived to tell the tale.
2. I don't know if you really voted so this is the honor system. However, the cookies will be magically enchanted so that if you are lying, you will get a tummy ache. Oh, and aliens will burst from your chest cavity.
3. Cookies will be sent sometime before U.S. Thanksgiving.
4. Your address will not be used for stealing your identity, rigging national elections, or subscribing to Brony mailing lists.

Blueberry Peach Pie instead of Birthday Cake!

This weekend we got together for my sister +Deb Meisner's birthday. She's not a big cake person, and peaches and blueberries are her favorite fruits, so voila! This was my first berry pie and crust from scratch so I was a bit nervous but it turned out wonderful (according to the family pie critics). My backup plan was mashed up peaches and blueberries in a bowl. hehehe 😉

Edit: Just fixed a second one tonight!

Cocoa Rice Krispie & Cocoa Puff Treats!

Cocoa Rice Krispies are the only way I really like this classic treat. While I was at the grocery earlier, I accidentally picked up a box of Cocoa Puffs first. I was like, "Hey… why have I not thought of this before?!" Boom. In the cart.

The Cocoa Puffs add a nice hit of cocoa when you bite into one plus I love the color and texture variation. 🙂

Melt 3 tablespoons butter in large saucepan on low heat.
Add 10 oz package marshmallows, or 4 cups of minis (which is what I use because I think they melt down faster).
Once melted, remove from heat and add 6 cups of Rice Krispies – or in this case, 5 cups Cocoa Krispies and 1 cup Cocoa Puffs.
Mix until completely coated and spread into greased 13x9x2 pan (might want to spray the spoon or spatula or your hands to spread it into the pan).
