I realized Friday in the Indy airport parking lot waiting on the shuttle that I have never traveled anywhere just on my own. Not by choice or fear or anything; just always been traveling with someone the way it worked out. So far as flights, last one was with daughter +Maddie Cramer to Disney in Florida a year ago. Before that was with +Keith Cramer to a business thing pre 9/11. I drive two and a half hour trips alone all the time to see daughter at her home town, but something about breaking out of the normal circumference of where you are familiar just feels way different – especially with no-one else to ask things like, "Where do you think we should turn/walk/go?", "Are we in the right place, do you think?", "Am I embarrassing you yet?" 🙂
I was thinking about +Halfdan Reschat traveling from Denmark to U.S. this last New Year's and that – navigating alone to a completely foreign country overseas, let alone another state, must take it to a new level altogether! Definitely an enviable experience.
Given money and time, I'd love to travel all the time. So far as being on my own, though it is fun to feel all independent, I'd much rather be sharing the experiences – even early morning airport waiting – with a loved one. ?

SWC, that could catch on!
All of my travels have been done with other people as well. I've been very lucky in that regard. But now I think I'm ready for some solo experiences to balance things out.
+Nikki C Which??
I have done much traveling alone since I was 15 and would travel from NYC to Bangkok twice a year by myself. Then I traveled around Italy alone twice.. I really enjoy finding my way, at my own pace. Doing what I want, when I want. Hope you enjoy Maine. +Scott Cramer
From this day forth, I shall refer to you as SWC!
I wish I had the funds to travel more. I've only really travelled solo once, returning from Bali.
It is a very liberating experience to travel solo ?
+Nikki C lol… I sound like an airport destination. 😉
Haahaa! A rather unique one I'd say ????
Enjoy your trip/stay!
When traveling alone there are no one to hold back, delay, or prevent from seeing what they want to see. That way if you screw up – by for instance getting on the wrong train – it is only yourself you are inconveniencing. That is certainly one strength of traveling alone. You are completely free to do whatever you feel like in the moment without affecting anyone else.
Even though I enjoy being on my own, the longer trips would be better with some company and traveling in confusing places could benefit from someone to talk the confusion over with.
All of this reminds me – I need to get around to getting my July-plans in place and order the tickets.
I have travelled alone but I prefer to be with a responsible adult (i.e. +David Mills) who I can turn to for help when lost or confused ;P
+Halfdan Reschat Yes! Indeed. Are you travelling alone this time or did times work out for friend(s)?
+Jo Lane Hmm… you know… you could probably rent him out for excursions! 😉
+Scott Cramer, still not sure.
