G+ New Design White Space NOT for Advertising

Curious what they have in mind. Right now, I find the entire layout annoying to look at. For the first time, I really do NOT want to spend time on G+.

Thanks +Scott Anderson for the share and +Moritz Tolxdorff for the post! Oh, and +Vic Gundotra for the confirmation!

Vic asking for feedback

+Vic Gundotra just jumped into our hangout for a quick first impression feedback. He also confirmed that the white space on widescreens is NOT for advertisement!! Google has plans for that, but is not giving any details yet!

I really like the changes and have to work on my cover picture now 😉

That's the first thing I thought with the extra space – oh great, we are going to have advertisements everywhere. Will have to look at this for awhile to decide if I like it or not …

  2. Claudio Ibarra says:

Open G+ fullscreen, and then chat with one or two people… does that assuage the issue?

  3. F. Azrafael Razak says:

I would prefer if we can customize the look of our g+ interface, much like gmail's themes.

That way I can invoke a black/dark background, less strain to the eyes.

  4. Chuck Howard says:

I've noticed two photo issues – First the "Black Side Borders" on the portrait photos is very distracting to the photo. I'd think if someone wanted to put a black border on a photo they'd already have done so. This is one of those huge UI Question Marks. Second, When viewing a photo, the +1 button that used to be on each of the comments thread is missing there. The only way to +1 a comment is to open a notification on that particular photo and through those comments in "Notifications" you can still +1 a comment. Please bring back the +1 button in the photo's comments. Otherwise I like the layout, nicely done.

    Nice!

  6. Yvan Da Silva says:

+Moritz Tolxdorff Me too, I've to work on my profile page look now 😀

  7. Charlie Gartland says:

I'm sorry, I really do not like it.

  8. Yvan Da Silva says:

I like the new design, but that might be because I don't use G+ in fullscreen, I just have two windows open side by side all the time
so it's perfect, plus the chat automatically hides when the windows is not large enough 😉

  9. Roger Murley says:

One word: Blegh. If that's not a word, it should be.

  10. Scott Cramer says:

Gotta agree with +Roger Murley. I had one word for it too. Four letters. Not nice.

  11. Claudio Ibarra says:

Apparently I'm the only one who thinks it looks nicer. I guess in time people will come around to my opinion fact.

  12. Scott Cramer says:

Sorry +Claudio Ibarra I think the designers should all be taken out and dipped in lava.

  13. Claudio Ibarra says:

No matter what the design change is, there will be scores of people with exactly that opinion. I don't think it's any worse than the old design, really. It's just different. I embrace change.

  14. Roger Murley says:

At least the iPhone app hasn't changed yet. And by the way, I'm still mad at them for removing the "incoming" stream.

  15. Scott Cramer says:

+Claudio Ibarra Agreed. But in this case, it really does suck donkeys.

  16. Claudio Ibarra says:

    Hahaha

  17. Yvan Da Silva says:

Awesome comment +Scott Cramer 😀 made me lol'ed

  18. Scott Cramer says:

Overall, I rely on one thing. Google will move forward and do something with it. I don't like it now, but it will change. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Google watching them chuckle at all the reactions because they ultimately know what's going to become of it all. Sorry if I sounded too negative. I prefer to call it passionate. ;-D I also apologize to designers and donkeys.

  19. Yvan Da Silva says:

    Specially to donkeys !!!!

  20. Roger Murley says:

I think the donkeys made out pretty well, actually
