I guess he read the fine print

So, I'm sitting in the office blowing off everything and playing on Google+ working, and I get a new notification. I immediately check it to see if someone mentioned me get around to looking at it after I finish talking about bears on a post doing some important programming stuff.

Low and behold, it's +Jim Gomes! Always a congenial and fun guy! And, he mentioned me in a comment! But wait… "This comment no longer exists." Sad face. So, I click through to the post where the comment used to be. It's +Summer Holmquist looking for recommendations of "the most caring, concerned, loving people you have in your circles."

"This comment no longer exists."

"Please mention at least one of the most caring, concerned, loving people you have in your circles."

"Jim Gomes mentioned you in a comment."

"This comment no longer exists."

Oh, snap! +Jim Gomes.

Okay, to be fair to Jim, I expanded all the comments on the post and did a search for my name because I'm vane I wanted to make sure there wasn't a mistake. Jim quite kindly mentioned me (and my bro). Google+ notifications just didn't bother to tell me that part! So, no more sad face. Well except for the fact the post reached the 500 comment limit so I was not able to participate!

and you dont know what he said, Crap!!

  2. Jim Gomes says:

Wait, I can explain! I had to save my comment as a place holder, because I saw that the comments were about to hit 500. However, I knew that once I saved it and then went back and edited to tag people, they wouldn't be notified. So, I edited it and tagged you in it. I then created a new comment and re-tagged both you and Keith so that you would get notified. I then deleted that comment so that it wouldn't take up the last remaining spot for someone else. So my plan worked!

  6. Meirav Berale says:

so, are you saying that if you edit a comment to tag someone, they won't get notified? this is not good news :/

EDIT: of course I feel compelled to test this now. who shall I tag? I know, +Annie Yim – tell me if you get a Notification that I tagged you here, ok?

  7. Jim Gomes says:

Sorry +Scott Cramer . I know how compassionate you are.

  8. Jim Gomes says:

It is a bit disconcerting when people delete comments, or even whole posts. Always makes you wonder…

  9. Annie Yim says:

Nope, didn't get the notification… I'm good though, I searched my way here :p

  10. Meirav Berale says:

well, I'm glad to have discovered this, but… honestly, Google, this is bad. Can you imagine how many times people have done it and thought the other person was ignoring them?

  11. Claudio Ibarra says:

This is why I turn on email notifications for everything in G+, and set Gmail to auto-mark-as-read and archive everything. Then I get a record of every original comment, whether it be edited or deleted.

  12. Jim Gomes says:

+Claudio Ibarra I do e-mail notifications for circle adds, but keep the regular notifications set for everything else.

  13. Keith Cramer says:

Too funny, I just finished screen capturing the same stuff +Scott Cramer did to throw a comment at +Jim Gomes. Glad I decided to read your stream first bro!

I did go back and read the comment you left though. Thanks +Jim Gomes for the mention.

  14. Jim Gomes says:

    Man! Compassionate, but snarky! 🙂

  15. Keith Cramer says:

We're here to keep you on your toes. Trust me, I don't get a moments rest. +Scott Cramer is relentless. 🙂

  16. Scott Cramer says:
