So, I was arguing the other day with a granite cornerstone of an oppressively large old building. Inside was a time capsule filled with dusty ideas and dated pictures of life. Try as I might to get this pillar of the community to allow me to add some new material, there was no give. The weight of all the carved and set stones of the structure above served well to strengthen the cornerstone. In the end I walked away unsuccessful and with a hoarse voice, the cornerstone resolute and unyielding. Time and change, however, are inescapable, even to cornerstones and the structures they prop up. Tiny cracks will expand and bricks will eventually fall, until one day the building will crumble, opening up that cornerstone to a new age.

Bravo!
Thank you +Kyla Myers 🙂
I began to think of the cornerstone as a elderly person who was stuck in their era….
So, I was arguing the other day with a granite cornerstone. An oppressively large old woman. She was nothing short of a time capsule, filled with dusty ideas and dated pictures of life. Try as I might to get this pillar of the community to allow me to add some new ideas, there was no give. The weight of all her memories sat, carved and set stone. They served her well to strengthen the cornerstone. In the end I walked away unsuccessful and with a hoarse voice, the cornerstone resolute and unyielding. Time and change, however, are inescapable, even to cornerstones and the societies they prop up. Children give way to new ideas and will expand those ideas and bricks will eventually fall, until one day the building will crumble, opening up that cornerstone to a new age.
+Kyla Myers I wrote this thinking about issues such as same sex marriage and ultra conservative individuals backed by political or religious institutions. I wanted it to be as open as possible, though, to the reader's interpretation. I very much like how you populated it with the idea of the elderly person. Kudos. 🙂
Well done, you!
Politics. That's what came to mind when I read it. The national and global "us vs. them" mentality, a fire fed by the powers-that-be to power their agenda… An outdated mindset. These things might have worked in the past, but those days are coming to a close with the advent of the ability of different cultures to communicate. I hope, anyway.
(while I was writing this, I made a trip to town, took four phone calls, and sold a server. Otherwise it might have been longer, and perhaps made sense.)
I thought it was completely coherent +Roger Murley and I enjoyed and agreed with your take on it! Congrats on the server sale too. 😉
Well done… But how long must I wait for that building to crumble.
From where i'm sitting, it's more than halfway there already.
+Keith Cramer Depends on the building and the general atmosphere.
